Self Assessment Tax Returns in Canary Wharf

Fixed-fee self assessment tax returns for Canary Wharf professionals, contractors and directors, prepared and filed by Chartered Certified Accountants.

Most people at Canary Wharf who need a tax return did not choose to need one. It arrived with a bonus, a share award that vested, a rental flat, a bit of consulting on the side, or simply income crossing a threshold. HMRC’s letter is the first they hear of it, and the deadline is closer than they think.

We prepare and file self assessment returns for individuals across E14 on a fixed fee agreed before we start. You send the documents, we ask the questions that matter, and you approve the return before it is submitted.

Who we help

Canary Wharf businesses we work with

The returns we see in Canary Wharf are rarely complicated in the technical sense — they are just easy to get wrong because the pieces come from different places. A P60 and a P11D from an employer. A share scheme statement that nobody explains. Dividend vouchers from a personal company. An agent’s statement for a flat. Foreign income where someone has moved mid-career. Any one of them is straightforward; four of them together is where errors and missed reliefs happen.

  • Employees with bonuses or income over £100,000 facing the personal allowance taper
  • Holders of RSUs, share options and employee share scheme awards
  • Contractors and consultants operating through their own company
  • Landlords letting in E14 and elsewhere in London
  • People with foreign income, or who have moved to or from the UK mid-year
  • Anyone who has received a notice to file from HMRC and is not sure why

  • Free initial consultation with no obligation and no sales pressure
  • Fixed fees agreed in advance, so there is never a surprise invoice

  • We handle the switch from your current accountant, including the professional clearance letter
  • Xero, QuickBooks and Sage certified, with in-person or video meetings as you prefer

Local expertise

Local knowledge, not a call centre

Where we usually add more than the fee is in the reliefs people do not know to claim. Pension contributions attracting higher and additional rate relief that has never been reclaimed through a return. Gift Aid donations doing the same. Employment expenses not reimbursed by an employer. Professional subscriptions. Losses on rental property carried forward. For someone in the tapered band between £100,000 and £125,140, where the effective marginal rate reaches 60%, a well-timed pension contribution is one of the most efficient things available — and it needs to be done before the tax year ends, not when the return is prepared.

Local proof

The work we do in Canary Wharf

Two situations that come up repeatedly here, and how they are usually dealt with:

Where the value usually sits

The reliefs people do not know to claim are where a Canary Wharf return earns its fee: higher and additional rate relief on pension contributions never reclaimed through a return, Gift Aid doing the same, unreimbursed employment expenses, professional subscriptions and rental losses carried forward. For anyone caught in the personal allowance taper between £100,000 and £125,140, a pension contribution made inside the tax year is the single most efficient move available.

Common questions

Self assessment tax returns in Canary Wharf – frequently asked questions

When is my tax return due?

The online filing deadline is 31 January following the end of the tax year, and any tax owed is due the same day. We ask clients for their records well before Christmas so there is time to plan for the payment rather than discover it. Late filing triggers an automatic penalty even if no tax is owed.

Do I need to declare my RSUs or share options?

Usually yes. Income tax on vesting is often collected through payroll, but the return still needs to reflect it, and any subsequent sale of the shares may create a capital gain to report separately. This is one of the most common omissions we correct on returns prepared elsewhere.

I earn over £100,000. Why does my tax feel so high?

Because the personal allowance is withdrawn by £1 for every £2 of income above £100,000, producing an effective marginal rate of around 60% until the allowance is gone. Pension contributions and Gift Aid can reduce adjusted net income and claw the allowance back — but they have to be made within the tax year to count.

How much do your accountancy services cost?

Fees depend on the size of the business and how much work is involved, so we quote after a short conversation rather than publishing a one-size-fits-all price. What we can promise is that the fee is fixed and agreed in writing before we start. Most sole traders and small limited companies find our pricing sits comfortably against comparable London firms.

How do I switch from my current accountant?

It is easier than most people expect and takes about ten minutes of your time. You tell your existing accountant you are moving, we write to them for professional clearance and your records, and we handle the handover of your HMRC and Companies House authorisations. You can switch at any point in the year, not just at your year end.

Do I have to come into your office?

No. Plenty of our clients we meet in person, and plenty we have never met at a desk at all — documents come in by email or cloud folder and we talk by phone or video. Both work equally well. If you would rather sit down together, our office on Mile End Road is easy to reach and parking nearby is manageable outside peak hours.
